1976 Jaguar XJS 5.3 V12 Coupé – First Series – Mechanically Very Good/Excellent – 63.000 Miles
Body and paint
This 1976 Jaguar XJS is a genuine first-series example with a straight, solid, and structurally sound body. The car has no known history of major accident damage and retains excellent panel fit.
One of its most unique features is that it still wears its original factory grey paint. While the paint is cosmetically tired, showing age-related fading, dullness, and imperfections, it has never been resprayed, making it a highly original “survivor” that will appeal to collectors who value authenticity.
The chrome trim is in good condition for its age, and the glass and lighting are in good working order. Rubber seals are partly original and partly renewed during maintenance. There are no known major welding repairs, and the underside is solid with no known structural corrosion.
Technical condition
The greatest strength of this Jaguar is its outstanding mechanical condition. During the last few years, over €20,000 has been invested in professionally recommissioning the car, with invoices available to support the work carried out.
Major work includes refurbishment of the fuel system (injectors, fuel pump and hoses), cooling system (radiator, expansion tank and hoses), ignition system (spark plugs and ignition leads), brake system, suspension components and various rubber parts. The air conditioning system has also been partially renewed.
The original 5.3-litre V12 engine starts immediately, both hot and cold, runs smoothly, and delivers the refined driving experience for which these cars are known. The automatic transmission shifts correctly and smoothly. The vehicle is factory standard and has not been modified.
There are no known major mechanical faults, making this an exceptionally well-sorted early XJS that is ready to be enjoyed.
Interior condition
The interior remains largely original and is finished in blue leather. It has been well cared for and is in good condition, with only light signs of wear consistent with the car's age.
The seats, dashboard, headliner and door panels are all well preserved and retain their original appearance. The car has not been modified, maintaining its authentic factory character.
The electrical systems are functioning as expected, including the gauges, switches, windows and ventilation controls.
Documentation
The vehicle comes with extensive documentation, including a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, maintenance invoices documenting the recent mechanical work, and service history. The car was originally delivered in the United States and its history is well documented.
